Create harmony in your design

When we talk of harmony in interior decoration, we are simply referring to the sense that all of the elements of your design fit together in terms of theme and aesthetic style. It means that each distinct piece seems to belong together in some way, even if it is not identical to anything else.

Harmony is foundational yet often overlooked principle of interior decoration and design in general. If applied well, it plays a key role in giving the rooms of your home a much-needed sense of calm and stability.

For example, if the dining room has white walls and dark-coloured furniture, then using dark-coloured furniture in other rooms will help tie them together visually. Another example of this is the use of a specific shape throughout the space, such as a round coffee table and lamps with a round base.

Use of many colours that don't originate from the same shade can disrupt harmony in the interior decor theme.

Always make sure that your design has a pattern that tells a story. That's simply harmony.

Why you may need to consider wallpapers in your design

  • Wallpaper is durable, and can last over 15 years making it very cost effective.
  • If you have imperfect walls, high quality wallpaper can hide surface imperfections.
  • They come in multiple designs making it easier for you to flow with a certain theme without too much design work .
  • They make your space look classy, unique and inviting
  • Fitting them is easy and faster.

Get it right while fixing your Curtain rods

The era of wooden curtain boxes and metallic rails is fading off.
House owners are now opting for curtain rods considering their user friendly nature.
However just a few have done their fitting as it should be done.
Often I have been disappointment after hanging curtains on poorly fitted rods.
Here is a brief guide on how to go about it;
  • Measure your window and mark the spots where the rods' brackets should be fixed....it should be 6 inches above the window and at least 4 inches out from each side of the casing. In the event that you wish to create an illusion of high ceiling, fix the rods touching the ceiling.
  • Make sure all your measurements are even by using a tape measure.
  • Use a drill and tighten the screws well

Simple Living Room set up

1.

2.

They say simplicity wins. However its important to understand that simplicity doesn't mean absence of style. For something to appear and feel simple, it has to be appealing to the eye.

For a design to be considered simple yet appealing, one has to do the following.

1.    Mix light and dark.
When a living room is all white and bright, it can feel too “clean” and unapproachable. This doesn’t give a relaxing feeling as much as a living room should be.
2.    Create some Contrast
Beyond including some white and some black, decorating a living room with a variety of contrasting colours goes a long way toward making it feel rich and welcoming.A good example is when you have white walls, caramel sofa, brass hardware, grey sofa and blue-grey cabinets all contrast with one another, which highlights their different finishes and undertones. This makes the palette feel rich even before other key elements pattern and texture, are added.
3.    Make good choices for texture
One may be wondering why texture should matter yet it is mainly judged by touching unlike other elements that are seen. It’s good to note that the right textures makes a living room feel cosy. Comforter pillows are a great place to start while decorating a living room.
4.    Mix up your upholstery
Traditionally, it has been perceived that a good décor theme is made of matching furnishes.  This concept is now out-dated. If you want a living room to feel cosy and welcoming, mix and match your upholstered pieces to give the design a bit more personality. One of the safest ways to do this is to mix leather chairs with a fabric sofa or vice versa, so the materials contrast in an obviously intentional way. It gives the living room design some diversity, which can also give members of the family different options to suit their seating preferences.
5.    Keep it neat
Soiled furnishes gives a bad impression of your space.
No matter how expensive your upholstery may be, if they are un-kept they won’t bring out the design and the warmth that they should. Choosing fabrics that can be cleaned easily is a great way of ensuring neatness in your living room.
6.    Include some nice wood work

We can’t talk about living room without talking about wood. There are so many ways to add wood, any of which will make a space feel a bit more inviting. Consider wall panelling, side tables, movable stools, picture frames, sofa legs and carved pieces of art as just a few of the many options.

Besides acting as a barrier to keep off mosquitos, Nets are also an important element in interior decor as they give a soft touch to the idle space between the floor and the celing.

As long as the net is neatly done and perfectly fitted, the impression it creates is good for the eye.
